DESCRIPTION Turquoise Emperor. The male has the most glorious blue/green iridescent wing colouring. This butterfly is restricted to rainforest on Cape York Peninsula where it is seen flying in the canopy and understorey. It feeds on sap from tree trunks and rotting fruit. They are a swift flying butterfly in the family Nymphalidae, subfamily Apaturinae.
