DESCRIPTION AKA Rainbow shield beetle. Iridescent rainbow colours on this small beetle from the family Scutelleridae. During feeding, jewel bugs inject proteolytic enzymes in their saliva into plants, digesting plant matter into a liquid form which they then suck up. Adults of this gregarious species may be found in large numbers on the leaves of any of its host species.
