DESCRIPTION Rainbow metallic colours on this beautiful day flying moth. Also known as the Sunset moth for obvious reasons. The colours on the Madagascan sunset moth's wings are produced by the conjunction of two optical phenomena namely optical interference and inter scale reflection.It is endemic to the Island of Madagascar where large migrations are seen in certain months. The bright metallic colours are a warning to predators of their toxicity.
Phoebis rurina - AKA Tailed Sulphur .Canary yellow colouration in this South American butterfly. Males can often be found among mud-puddling aggregations of other Phoebis species. Forming tight packs of dozens of butterflies when alarmed the mass of insects flutters into the air forming a mass of swirling yellow wings.
