DESCRIPTION AKA Imperial Moth. Pretty golden yellow scattered with purple/brown moth with a wingspan of 8-14cm. This is the female which is larger than the male and has slightly different markings. Adults emerge before sunrise and mate after midnight the next day. Pupation takes place in underground burrows and caterpillars feed on a variety of foodplant from Conifers to Maple leaves. The adults do not feed. Found from Maine west to eastern Nebraska, south to the Florida Keys and central Texas.
