DESCRIPTION Huge specimen +11cm in length and 5 cm across ! Belonging to the Scarabaeidae family this rhinoceros beetle is one of the worlds largest beetles. The dorsal surface is a matt black with powerful legs and large tarsal claws. Note the strong looking horns protruding from the head. The species name actaeon derives from the name of a famous Theban hero, son of the priestly herdsman Aristaeus and Autonoe in Boeotia, trained by the centaur Chiron.
