DESCRIPTION The Morphos are Neotropical butterflies found mostly in South America, this species was sourced from Peru. The genus name Morpho comes from an Ancient Greek epithet, roughly "the shapely one", for Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. This male rhetenor helenor has a brilliant iridescent blue colouring highlighted with a white band. The colouation of the wings on the dorsal will vary depending on the angle of the frame in stark contrast the ventral is a dull brown. The blue male butterfly has a wingspan up to 17cm across.
This is truely the most spectacular butterfly in our range and a must for any collector. This item is not stocked all year as limited quantities are supplied from our sources annually.
Please note all Morpho butterflies are mounted without abdomen. The abdomen of the Morpho emits a grease like substance which stains the backboard. All professional mounts will not have an abdomen attached.
