DESCRIPTION AKA The Red Flasher. Stunning brick red and black colourings on verso of this butterfly from the family Nymphalidae. The verso colouration contrasts sharply with the beautiful iridescent blues found on the upperside. The males like to imbide from mineral risch sands on riverbanks and are often seen in crowds of 50 or more. The bright red verso wings when flapped act as a warning to others of impending danger. Named after one of Asclepius's daughters Panacea.
