DESCRIPTION Rare hard to get giant Passalid beetles commonly known as Bess beetles. Not only are these beetles impressively large but are also unique in that they are sub social and practice brood caring. They have the odd ability to produce 14 acoustical sounds by rubbing their abdomen against their hind wings. This is highly unusual for beetles. These xylophagous subsocial beetles live both as larvae and imagoes in galleries excavated inside the rotting wood they feed upon, and the adults of different generations (as is common in Passalidae) engage in cooperative brood caring.
As we rarely receive this fabulous beetle we have decided to keep it in our collection but thought our clients may want to view this species.
