DESCRIPTION Red coloured flower beetle from the family Scarabaeidae. This cetonid is noted for its great colourations which vary from cobalt blue to greens to reds. This flower chafer mainly feeds on the nectar of flowers and fruit and reach sizes up to approximately 35mm. Flower chafers are unusual beetles because they fly with their wing cases closed (most beetles lift their wing covers well clear of the body). The larvae of flower chafers are white and live in rotting wood or decaying vegetable matter. ref www.australianmuseum.net.au
