DESCRIPTION AKA Blue Carpenter Bee - Xylocopa caerulea. Great coloured bee - beautiful bright blue coloured hairs cover the thorax. The wings have a purple / green / blue metallic shine when angled against the light. Note this bee is approximately 22mm in length with a wingspan of approximately 40mm. The male of this species is a dull brown.
Megascolia velutina ducalis - AKA Giant Scoliid Wasp one of the largest in the world next to the Pepsis wasp. This is a colourful large wasp with iridescent purple blue wings and golden yellow markings. Covered in black hairs these wasps have giant stingers which they use to paralyze the larvae of the scarab beetle larvae. They are often seen feeding on the nectar of flowers. This wasp is huge !
