DESCRIPTION Stunning metallic blue bands on the viso wings of this male. The genus name Morpho comes from an Ancient Greek epithet, roughly "the shapely one", for Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. The Blue Morpho butterfly has 6-10 layers of branches that make up tree like structures, resulting in multilayer that selectively reflects blue. The color of the Blue Morpho butterfly stays in the blue regardless of the viewing angle. The pigment beneath each of these scale absorbs the unnecessary green to red light, which reduces the background reflection and enhances the blue structural color. The verso side is in stark contrast with dull brown colouring with various sized eyespots ( ocelli ) from the Latin oculus (eye).
Care
All frames are professionally prepared and fumigated for a minimum of six months prior to sale. While every precaution is taken, museum mites may occasionally occur.
Prevention is better than the cure! To help protect your collection, we strongly recommend placing your display in the freezer for one week each year. Regular inspection and monitoring are also recommended to help preserve your specimen for many years to come.
To minimise fading, avoid direct or reflected sunlight. Please also protect your display from extreme fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
Glass may shatter if dropped. Hang only using the hook provided.
